The Dunbar Builders Experience

Energy Star Builder

Energy Star Builder

Dunbar Builders is proud to offer building choices that can save families money on their utility bills without sacrificing features, style or comfort. As an ENERGY STAR builder, we help you make energy efficient choices when building your new home.

Columbia & Lexington ENERGY STAR Builder

To earn the ENERGY STAR rating, a home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes. Here are a some examples:

Insulation

Many of Dunbar Builder’s projects use open cell foam insulation provided by Lucas Insulation. It is the single-most effective way to drastically decrease energy bills.

HVAC

As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So making smart decisions about your home’s heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big effect on your utility bills — and your comfort. We use HVAC systems that have earned the ENERGY STAR rating.

Appliances

At Dunbar Builders, we recommend and use appliances that have earned the ENERGY STAR rating. ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators use up to 40 percent less energy and feature high-efficiency compressors, improved insulation, and more precise temperature and defrost mechanisms.

ENERGY STAR qualified dishwashers use at least 41 percent less energy than the federal minimum standard for energy consumption. These dishwashers use “smart” features such as effective washing action, energy-efficient motors, and sensors that determine the necessary cycle length and water temperature.

ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers use 40 to 50 percent less energy and about 55 percent less water than standard washers.

Building Products

Insulation, roof products, windows, doors and skylights all can affect the performance of your home with regard to energy efficiency. At Dunbar Builders, we look for building products that meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
